Eau Claire (WQOW) - Christmas is less than one month away, and that means the next few weeks will be a busy time for packaging and shipping companies.
Staff at The UPS Store, located on South Hastings Way in Eau Claire, said their volume of packages doubles during this time of the year to 200 packages a day! James Kenner, the owner of the franchise company, said while it is not a part of the UPS Terminal located in Altoona, it sees its share of heightened workload in the weeks leading up to Christmas Day. "This is kind of the calm before the storm. It's going to start getting real crazy between Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, the next three weeks are going to be pretty busy,” Kenner said.
News 18 also spoke with the communications representative for UPS on Monday, who said they are expecting a 14 percent increase in shipping volume compared to 2015 during the holiday season.
He said the company is expecting to deliver about 30 million packages per day nationwide. That's about 700 million packages between Thanksgiving and December 31. The UPS representative said the average driver in Eau Claire normally delivers about 300 packages a day. But, during the holiday season, that number can be as many as 500 packages.
