Madison (WKOW) - Madison now ranks in the top 200 communities in the nation for the city's ability to protect people.
The Madison Fire Department announced Monday the city is now a Class 1 Fire Protection Community, one of only four in the state with this recognition. The Insurance Service Organization looks at emergency communications, water supply and fire department operations to assign this classification.
The news could mean you might save money on your homeowners insurance.
"[The community does] have to do some work to help us and that they have to reach out to their insurance providers to make sure the insurance provider is aware that premiums are applied correctly, Class I designation," says Chief Steve Davis.
Davis says he's proud that the department was able to score highly on training.
