Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - A Chippewa Falls non-profit wants to raise the bar in helping those in need, by bringing those who help all under the same roof.
Community leaders want to build a center for various community resources in one centralized location. Dave Gordon, Board President for the Legacy Community Center told News 18 the idea was born three years ago. Gordon said the goal is to make it easier for those in need to be able to receive services.
Gordon told News 18 the center would be built on a vacant parking lot at the corner of N. Bridge and Birch Streets in Chippewa Falls. The $2.5 million, two-story building would house agencies that offer medical or dental services in the basement. The first floor could house a food pantry, as well as a food service agency, like Agnes' Table. The second floor would be for offices and would include a conference room for skills training and informational classes.
"We just kind of think that if we all got together, the results might be different," Gordon said.
Gordon said the Legacy Community Center still needs to raise the money for the project. They hope to start a capital campaign in the next few months. Gordon said the project probably wouldn't open to the public for another two to three years.
