UNITY (WAOW) - A 71-year-old Unity man is dead - 17 days after he was run over by his pickup truck after he tried to stop it from rolling backwards, Clark County Sheriff Gregory Herrick said Tuesday.
Alfred Weideman was seriously hurt in the Nov. 15 incident at a dump site in town where he was hauling some yard waste, the sheriff said.
Weideman left the engine running and the door open before the truck started rolling backwards. As Weideman tried to jump inside and stop it, he fell to the ground and was run over on his chest and neck, Herrick said in a statement.
Weideman was transported to a Marshfield hospital by helicopter where he died Friday, the sheriff said.
"It was reported that Alfred was having transmission problems with the truck prior to the accident," Herrick said.
