Eau Claire (WQOW) -

The Chippewa River in Eau Claire is above flood stage and will crest late Friday.

A Flood Warning remains in effect areas near the Chippewa River from Eau Claire to the Dunn County line until Monday morning. Minor flooding is expected. Portions of the Chippewa River Bike Trail and lower areas of Owen Park will be under water. Basements near the river could flood.

Downstream, from southern Dunn County through the Durand area, a Flood Warning Remains in effect until Wednesday, May 24th. Minor to moderate flooding is expected. Basements of businesses and homes that are near the river in Durand will flood. Water will be close to portions of U.S. Highway 10. Watch for water over roads, and remember, "turn around, don't drown!"

Many rivers are flooding in Buffalo, Jackson, and Trempealeau Counties because of the heavy rain. The Mississippi River is expected to rise near or above flood stage in many locations over the next two weeks.

Chippewa County emergency officials said high water levels on the Chippewa River will be a factor in Rusk, Chippewa, Eau Claire, Pepin and Buffalo counties into the weekend.

Dennis Brown, the emergency management director for Chippewa County, said it is uncommon to have flow rates this high during summer months. Structures in low-lying areas, boat lifts and docks may be impacted.

Brown said the Flambeau and Jump Rivers will also have significantly higher flow rates than normal.
