Eau Claire (WQOW) - A fourth competency hearing has been scheduled for Shane Helmbrecht, the Eau Claire man accused of murdering his neighbor one year ago.

According to online court records, the judge in the case ordered the new hearing after reviewing a confidential report by Dr. Laurence Trueman in July. In May, Helmbrecht was found not competent to stand trial, and his case was suspended.

The 45-year-old is accused of breaking into the home of his neighbor, Jen Ward, shooting and killing her July 30, 2016.

Helmbrecht told police he was hearing voices in his head and admitted smoking meth the day before. Helmbrecht's family said he had symptoms of PTSD from his time in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His new competency hearing is set for August 21. A week-long trial is still for February.
