City Council approves new Eau Claire fire station

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Eau Claire City Council gave the green light to a new fire station on the north side of the city.

At their meeting Tuesday, the Eau Claire City Council approved the site plan for a new Fire Station 10 on Malden Avenue, allocating $563,159.50 for site work and the foundation for the structure.

The city said they hope to pour concrete next week, before the first winter frost. Then in early spring, they will begin the upper structure.

“We need a new fire station, we probably need more than one, but we need one their badly. All of our studies show us that we need better, not better but we need to maintain our response time in a growing city,” Eau Claire City Council President Kerry Kincaid told News 18.

The city said the new station is currently scheduled for three truck bays, however they will hold a vote on additional funding in two weeks on extending it to five.

Eau Claire (WQOW) -
Eau Claire City Council held a public hearing for a new fire station Monday. The station would be built on Malden Avenue on the north side of Eau Claire.

Earlier this year the council approved rezoning the area for the station. The project would cost about $4.5 million. The city said it's a small price to pay when safety is on the line.

“The old station was becoming unusable, and we want to provide the best and fastest service we can to the community. I think this a new station will do that,” Kathy Mitchell, city council vice president, told News 18.

The city council will vote on the proposal Tuesday afternoon.
