MADISON (WKOW) -

With four weeks left in the 2017 volleyball regular season, Dana Rettke has already set the Big Ten Conference record for Freshman of the Week honors.

The Wisconsin Badgers’ 6-8 middle blocker earned her seventh weekly award on Monday, breaking the old mark of six set by Samantha Seliger-Swenson of Minnesota in 2015.

Last week, Rettke recorded back-to-back matches with 10-or-more kills, putting away 17 kills at No. 1 Penn State and 11 kills vs. Northwestern. She averaged 4.0 kills per set while hitting .407 (28 kills – 6 errors – 54 total attempts) on the week.

Rettke added 1.29 blocks per set, tallying nine blocks on the week. She also scored on one service ace at Penn State and recorded two digs against the Nittany Lions.

On the season, Rettke leads the Badgers and ranks second in the Big Ten with a .453 hitting percentage. She also leads the team and ranks 10th in the conference with 3.43 kills per set. The freshman has a team-best 1.41 blocks per set, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten.

In addition to her seven Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, Rettke has also been named the Player of the Week twice.

No. 8 Wisconsin (15-6, 6-6 B1G) wraps up a three-match home stand with two contests in the UW Field House this weekend. The Badgers host Ohio State (12-11, 5-7) on Friday at 7 p.m., while Maryland (16-8, 5-7) comes to town on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match.
