Pasch practices at South Middle School ahead of the State competition
Eau Claire (WQOW) -- For the past 13 seasons, there has been one constant at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships - an Eau Claire Memorial diver in the 1 meter finals.
This season is no different. Senior Olivia Pasch will lead the charge for the Old Abes in Madison. It's her fourth straight year qualifying for the state meet, and she has finished in the top 10 each of the past two seasons.
"Memorial divers have been going to state for over 20 years now and it's because we have great coaches, Al [Hudacek] and Derick [Black], and it just feels good to be a part of that legacy," Pasch says, "Just being the 4th year going down to state, I kind of know what to expect, but I'm just focused on getting clean entries, just doing better than I did last year and keeping improving."
"I hope that she has a meet that she's proud of," says Diving coach Derick Black, "First place, third place, eighth place, whatever, all of that would be great, but what we preach, and I think she buys into is, show everybody what you can do and let's walk away with a great meet experience."
Sophomore Gretchen Hanson will join Pasch at State, making her second appearance. The Division 1 diving competition starts at 10 a.m. this Saturday.
