Stanley, Bloomer (WQOW) -- Wednesday's an exciting day for a number of area athletes, as it's the first day they can sign their college letters of intent and make their post-high school decisions official.
Two Stanley-Boyd student-athletes will play at the next level. Golfer Savanna Anderson, who took second individually at the Division 2 sectional and 12th at state, signs with Division II Winona State. Tahlia Walton, who played her sophomore season at Eau Claire Memorial, signs to play Division I women's basketball at UW-Milwaukee.
"Being able to play D-I basketball in a big city, that's obviously been a dream of mine for a very long time," Walton says, "when I visited there they were very family oriented, which I really liked, making sure we were comfortable with the team before we would come in. They really work well together, so finding out where I'm going and making it official is very relieving."
In Bloomer, Kendall Zeman signs her letter of intent to run track & field for Division II Winona State, and says it's the coaching staff and the campus that made her feel welcome.
"I just really loved their campus and the whole experience when I was there touring, and I really appreciated the coaches," Zeman says, "knowing that I'm there and what I'm going to do after I graduate is really nice."
Zeman finished fifth in the 400 meter dash at the WIAA Division 2 State Championships last season.
Also signing Wednesday is Cameron's Gunner Wilder, who'll play men's basketball at Division II University of Indianapolis. Wilder is just the second Comets boys basketball player to receive a college scholarship offer.
Three Menomonie athletes sign letters of intent: Carissa Henderson with Division I UW-Green Bay (women's swimming), Tyra Boettcher with Division II Minnesota State-Mankato (women's basketball), and Grace Bilse with Division II Northern Michigan (women's cross country, women's track & field).
Eau Claire North and Eau Claire Memorial will hold signing ceremonies on Thursday.
