Eau Claire (WQOW) - If you're looking for a furry friend, seven cats at the Eau Claire County Humane Association are up for adoption, and they all have an interesting back story.
In July, News 18 first told you about 13 cats that were removed from an Eau Claire woman's home by police after the home was deemed unlivable.
Now, after the cats were checked for illnesses and received updated vaccinations, they are looking for forever homes.
Eau Claire County Humane Association has seven of the cats ready for adoption, four others are still getting checked for illnesses and two were put down due to poor health.
"When the officers got there they did locate numerous cats that were in living conditions that were determined to be uninhabitable," said Bridget Coit, an officer with ECPD. "The court process is still ongoing for the district attorney's office and so everything at this point is allegations as to what occurred. The owner of those animals did decide to willingly surrender them."
The previous owner of the cats is charged with 12 misdemeanors related to the cat's conditions.
She will be back in court mid-December.
