UPDATE: The search continues for a man missing in Eau Claire that authorities say is avoiding law enforcement, though his family is asking for the community's help finding him.

Blake Mares, 23, was last seen on October 20 at about 2:00 a.m. Police said a car was pulled over on the off-ramp leading from Hwy. 53 to North Crossing. They said Mares jumped out of the car and ran into a wooded area.

On Saturday, family members searched for Mares and, according to his mother, they were able to find his hat and sweatshirt in the wooded area near Kwik Trip on Black Ave. Now they're asking people in that area to check their property and trail cams for any sign of Mares.

In a statement, the Eau Claire Police Department said on Friday:

“The fact that Blake has a warrant for his arrest or ran from the police is secondary to his safety. We are simply asking Blake or anyone with him to please contact Blake’s family and provide us with a verifiable way of confirming his welfare.”

Anyone that may have information about Mares' current whereabouts is asked to contact Sgt. Pieper with the Eau Claire Police Department at (715) 491-1446.
