Eau Claire (WQOW) -- Though many people welcome a new year in January, crowds rang in the new year in Eau Clare over the weekend.
The community celebrated the Hmong New Year at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center Saturday and Sunday. The celebration marks the end of the harvest year and the welcoming of the new year.
Guests and performers donned traditional garb and people had the opportunity to take in cultural performances. There was also a talent competition, and vendors were on hand selling traditional Hmong products and foods.
Organizers told News 18 the festivities are open to everyone in Eau Claire, not just the city's Hmong community.
"We encourage them to come out and experience maybe a different culture -- a different way of looking at things. Different sub-culture community. So we encourage them to come out and join us," Pao Xiong said.
The party runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Evening entertainment is scheduled for Saturday night as well, from 7:00 p.m. until 11:45 p.m.
