The holiday bowl season is upon us in Eau Claire, only it has nothing to do with college football.
The Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center hosted the 15th annual Turkey Bowl on Saturday and Sunday, a two-day, three-on-three indoor soccer tournament.
Organizers said they put the event together so family members in town for the holidays can enjoy some fun, friendly competition. They said tt also reunites many families within the soccer community.
“You come indoors and you bounce it off the boards. You play on the turf, it is a different atmosphere. It's a lot faster...games a lot faster than outside,” soccer coach John Whitwam told News 18.
"It's just good footwork, keeps the kids moving. A little different game, but it's a heck of a lot of fun. A good chance for them to be with their buddies and play soccer,” Whitwam explained
Sunday was the youth tournament, but the Turkey Bowl is open to athletes as young as 10 through college. This year, 35 teams participated in the tournament.
