Bill would allow first responders to treat pets in emergency situations
Eau Claire (WQOW) - During an emergency, did you know first responders are not allowed to help those on four legs, just two? Well, some Wisconsin lawmakers are looking to change that.
State legislature is considering two bills that would allow first responders to treat pets during an emergency.
Right now, it's technically illegal in Wisconsin to give animals medical aid without a veterinarian license. However, many fire departments already do so including here in Eau Claire. Fire officials said they have special masks designed for animals with instructions on how to administer them. Almost half of all states already allow this.
