Ladysmith man faces child enticement, strangulation charges

Rusk County (WQOW) -- A Ladysmith man faces two felony charges after allegedly trying to convince a teenager to have sex.

Jakeb Kirk was charged Monday with child enticement and strangulation in Rusk County.

According to the complaint, in early November, a 13 year old girl told police that Kirk entered her bedroom and tried to get her to give him oral sex. She said no, and when she tried to scream, he put his hands on her throat and mouth.  Elizabeth Snider, who lives with Kirk, said the noise woke her up, and when she investigated, she found him in the girl's bedroom on top of the teen.

But Snider told WQOW News 18 that's not what happened.  She says she was not awakened- that she was already awake and that Kirk was merely trying to calm the girl, who woke up screaming from a bad dream.  Snider says the girl made up the story to get Kirk in trouble.

Kirk told police a similar story, but admitted he was drunk and did not remember much of the incident.

He has a preliminary hearing on November 30.
