Altoona (WQOW) - The Altoona City Council passed its 2018 budget Tuesday night. It includes a drop in spending while taxes stay the same.
The city's general spending is slated for $10.5 million next year. That's nearly $2 million less than spending in 2017. Despite the expense drop, taxes will stay the same.
City Administrator Mike Golat says the spending drop is partly due to increased revenue from recent development in Altoona, and more hotel/motel tax dollars. Plus, the 2017 budget included more than $2 million for the River Prairie Event Center.
