Construction underway at Plymouth UCC in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) - -

Last year, Plymouth United Church of Christ suffered a devastating loss. But now, walls for this sanctuary are rising from the ashes.

Plymouth UCC burned down after it was struck by lighting in September of 2016. Over the past year, the church has worked with architects to design a new building, which Reverend David Huber estimates will cost nearly $1.5 million.

Huber said the new and improved building will be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

"We kind of agreed immediately that we would rebuild and started talking even the night after the fire," said Huber. "Let's make a building that's even more usable by the community and a lot more flexible space and something that could be even more functional than the building that we had before."

Members of the UCC currently worship at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Construction on their new building is expected to finish by August 2018.
