With many stories in the recent news about sexual violence and assault, the University of Wisconsin-Stout is doing its' part to make sure students and staff know how to prevent sexual abuse.

On Monday, the university welcomed sexual assault prevention expert, Kimberly Dickman, to campus to raise awareness about sexual misbehavior.

Dickman spoke with different student organizations about preventative assault steps and what they can do as a campus community to prevent more sexual assault victim statistics.

The expert said during a meeting with various student organizations on Monday that sexual assault situations can happen anywhere.

"It happens all over our community and our culture," Dickman said. "It can happen to any person, male or female. It happens in marital relationships, and in the single community. There's a higher risk with younger folks in terms of being victimized but it can happen to anybody at anytime."

Dickman told News 18 it's important to speak to young people about this subject, because they are the future and they should know what type of preventative actions to take to end sexual assault.

Dickman will speak at UW-Stout's campus on Monday evening at 7 p.m.

The event will take place at the Student Center, and it is free for both students and the general public.
