Shots fired at detectives after suspects crash into business
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Police say one of two vehicles speeding on a main downtown Milwaukee street struck a detectives' squad car and crashed into a jewelry store before one of the occupants fired shots at the officers.
Authorities say a 43-year-old detective was treated at the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash. A second detective was not hurt.
Police say the two vehicles, one going the wrong way, together blew through a red light on Wisconsin Avenue about 3:00 a.m. The vehicle going the wrong way hit the squad car and lost control, crashing into the business. The driver of the crashed car then jumped in the other vehicle.
As that vehicle sped away, a suspect fired multiple shots at the detectives with one shot striking the unmarked squad car. The suspects are still at large.
