Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Eau Claire/Altoona stars are still perfect on the season, sitting at 5-0 after Tuesday night's win over Black River Falls.
That start has propelled the Stars to a second overall ranking in the Wisconsin Prep Hockey Girls Poll. Over the past couple of years, the Stars have relied on standouts Abigail Stow, Charlotte Akervik, and Ava Kison to pace the team - with Akervik out, Stow and Kison are still dynamic on the ice, but this season they're getting plenty of help from underclassmen.
"We've got a good core of young players, and those kids are getting a lot of ice time," head coach Tom Bernhardt says, "We knew based on summer and based on what the kids put in, the effort they've put in the Fall, skating together that they were going to come into November and be ready to go, and that's really what we've seen, so I mean I think our expectations for our young group of players especially, have kind of exceeded expectations a bit, and they've been strong contributors."
The Stars travel to Hudson to face the top-ranked Raiders next Thursday.
