Eau Claire (WQOW) - Be ready to pay higher bills if you're an Xcel Energy customer, but costs won't rise as much as Xcel wanted them to.
The State Public Service Commission Thursday approved Xcel's request to raise rates.
The typical electricity user will pay about $2 more a month. Xcel wanted a $6 hike.
Xcel's natural gas customers will pay about $4.75 a month more, also less than the company requested.
The increases start January 1.
Xcel said the increases are necessary for continued investment in distribution facilities, along with electric generation and transmission.
