You probably saw plenty of officers on the side of the road this week, dealing with numerous car crashes thanks to the poor road conditions.
Because of the snow, area departments have been extra busy tending to accidents.
The Eau Claire Police Department says on Thursday, Dec. 28, they helped with a total of 19 crashes, and that's not including the evening hours. Some happened on I-94 and Hwy 53, and although those areas do not fall under the ECPD's jurisdiction, officers were called in to help.
"So with the snowy roads, especially with the very cold temperatures that we're having, there is a lot of ice staying on the roadways," said Officer Bridget Coit of ECPD. "And so we're encouraging people to continually slow down, take our time, and make sure you are giving the vehicles around you extra space."
The roads around Eau Claire were looking clear on Saturday, Dec. 30. But remember, even if things look okay, black ice is always a possibility when it gets this cold, and taking it slow is your safest bet.
