Volunteers sought to remove lights from Irvine Park

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - With the end of Christmas comes the end of the Christmas Village at Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls. However, the lights and displays do not disappear on their own, so the Chippewa Falls Parks and Recreation Dept. is looking for your help.

Starting Monday, January 8, the department is looking for volunteers to take down decorations. Parks Director Dick Hebert said there are more than 100,000 lights at the park and more than 200 displays.

Hebert said it generally takes about one month to remove everything from the park. Even with the snow and ice that has plagued the Chippewa Valley, Hebert expects most, if not all, displays will be able to be removed. In the past, a few displays have been left up until spring because of the frozen ground.

After all of the displays are taken down, staff and volunteers spend the next month checking each light to make sure everything works before storing the items away for the next year.

Hebert said shifts start at 9:45 a.m. or 12:45 p.m. on Monday. Work for as long as you're able, up until 3:00 p.m.

If you're interested, or have questions, call the park office at 715-723-0051.
