UPDATE (WQOW) -- The Dunn County Sheriff's Office released the name of the man killed in a weekend car crash in Elk Mound.
Authorities said Michael Koenig, 31, from rural Colfax was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived at about 2:20 a.m. Saturday. They believe Koenig was traveling west on State Highway 29 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road near the intersection of 906th Street.
Officials said he was thrown from his vehicle when it went down a steep embankment and rolled several times. They do not believe he was wearing a seat belt.
They said alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by Dunn County officials.

A rural Colfax man was killed in a crash early Saturday morning in the town of Elk Mound. The Dunn County Sheriff's office says the crash happened just before 2:30 A.M. on highway 29 near the intersection with 906th Street.
When officers arrived, they found the 31-year-old man already deceased. They believe he was thrown out of the vehicle as it rolled several times down a steep embankment. It appears he was not wearing a seat belt. The sheriff's office also says speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, based on the initial investigation.
The name of the victim was not released while his family is notified.
