Eau Claire (WQOW) - A domestic situation leads to an Eau Claire man being charged with 14 counts, including 9 felonies.
Stephen Roberts was charged in Eau Claire County on Tuesday. The charges include sexual assault and substantial battery, among others.
According to the complaint, police received a 911 call where a woman whispered "help me" and then hung up. When police arrived, they found the door locked. They heard the victim yell for help twice, prompting police to break down the door. Police said they found Roberts on top of the victim. Police said he ignored orders, but was eventually taken into custody.
The victim told police that Roberts sexually assaulted her, and had beaten her for several days straight, starting on January 5. Roberts also asked her to bring him heroin. She refused, but did drive him to pick up alcohol twice.
According to police, doctors said the victim had significant bruising, broken ribs and a brain bleed.
If convicted on all counts, Roberts faces a maximum penalty of more than 136 years in prison.
