Eau Claire (WQOW) - If your new year's resolution was to join a gym and stay fit for 2018, of course, you're not alone.
Gyms across the Chippewa Valley have seen a spike in memberships since the first of the year. How long will those new memberships stick around?
News 18 spoke with several local gyms to find out just how popular this new year's resolution is, and when this spike will slow down.
"Our numbers are so exciting," said Jean Binkley of Highland Fitness. "This is the busiest time of the year for Highland Fitness. We have hundreds of new memberships, just in the first week of January."
Gold's Gym, Momentum CrossFit 715, Anytime Fitness and Pure Fitness 4 You, all told News 18 new members flooded in for the new year. Pinehurst Fitness estimated 20 new members, while 3D Fitness welcomed 32.
Gym employees said spring's warm weather impacts their memberships, but overall, there are no significant drops after Jan. 1.
