Two people face charges after allegedly defrauding a Chippewa Falls woman out of more than $100,000

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - Two people are facing charges after investigators say a Chippewa Falls woman was defrauded out of more than $100,000.

The victim told police she met a man on Facebook last summer who was asking if anyone needed money.

Police said Andrew Conklin talked her into buying a dozen cell phones and a tablet, and taking out loans for five vehicles, jewelry, quick loans, and other items. The woman said he promised to sell them and give her the proceeds.

The loans for the vehicles alone totaled more than $119,000.

Police said Conklin also talked her into opening up four credit cards, which he took and allegedly maxed out.

Brandi Schofield, Conklin's ex, was also charged. According to the complaint, she admitted using the credit cards and told investigators they knew the victim was 'slow' and took advantage of her with no intention of paying her back.

Conklin claimed he had repaid the woman for the cell phones, and admitted leasing out the vehicles she bought.

Conklin was charged with being a party to felony theft by false representation. Schofield will be in court in March on the same charge.
