How to stick with New Year's resolutions

Chippewa Valley (WQOW) - Eighty percent of people that make New Year's resolutions, break them by the end of the month. That's according to Andrea Hess, an EAP counselor with HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital.

Hess said if you want to stick with your resolutions, you need to make a realistic and encouraging plan.

She said often times we're too hard on ourselves, so focus on the positive small steps that are made in the right direction and remind yourself of why you set out to accomplish it in the first place.

“Let's say you want to run a five mile race and you are one mile into the race,” Hess said, “A suggestion would be not to say I have four more miles to go, but if you tell yourself I have one more mile I will have doubled the time that I have run and that's an accomplishment in and of itself.”

If one day doesn't go as planned, a fresh start can be tomorrow.
