On Saturday, thousands of dollars were donated to help out local heroes and their families.
Every year the Chippewa Valley Eagle's Club selects a non-profit and donates the money raised at their annual block party. For 2017, the Eagle's raised $13,300, which was given to the VFW's "Unmet Needs" program.
The program exists to help America's military families through any unexpected financial difficulties. For the last three years the Eagle's Club has donated to "Unmet Needs," raising a total of $37,000.
"It's just a lot of work," said Sallie Butcher of the Eagle's Club. "We need a lot of volunteers to do this. Our motto as a fraternal order is 'People helping people,' and our organization in this local area has been around for over 80 years."
In addition to the Eagle's gracious donations, Burger King, a long-standing donor to the program, announced that they have raised more that $5M for "Unmet Needs" since 2007.
