UPDATE: Chippewa County deputy released from hospital after Sunday morning crash

UPDATE: Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk released the names of the two people involved in a crash near Cornell on Sunday.

Kowalczyk said Deputy Jason Kestner, 47, was driving northbound on Hwy. 27 when he collided with Evan Clark, 25, of Chippewa Falls, Sunday morning.

Duputy Kestner was released from the Hospital on Sunday evening.

Clark's current condition is unknown, although the sheriff's office said on Sunday he was expected to be OK.

Chippewa County (WQOW) - Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash involving a Chippewa County deputy Sunday morning.

According to the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, a male Deputy Sheriff, 47, was injured when his squad car collided with an SUV on Highway 27 just south of Cornell.  It happened just after 6:30 Sunday morning.  

Authorities told News 18 the deputy was heading north on 27, responding to a call at the time of the accident.  Both he and the driver of the SUV, a man, 24, from rural Chippewa Falls, were taken to local hospitals, but both are expected to be OK, according to Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk. 

The accident shut down Highway 27 south of Cornell Sunday morning, but it reopened to traffic by the early afternoon.
