Lake Hallie (WQOW) - According to Lake Hallie police, the issue of replica guns used while committing crimes is a problem faced by many law enforcement agencies across the country.
Police said on January 25, 2018 a BB gun and a holster designed to accommodate a real gun were stolen from a retailer in Lake Hallie.
The 27-year-old male suspect who committed the theft is currently on probation for burglary and causing injury by negligent use of a weapon.
The retail theft occurred shortly before he forcefully entered two locked vehicles at two separate businesses, and committed a burglary to a business where he took cash and drove away in an all-terrain utility vehicle. Lake Hallie officers tracked the suspect who at first evaded capture.
He was arrested and the BB gun and holster were located in a backpack he had been carrying. The gun was never displayed during the arrest.
