Hudson (WQOW) -- An Independence man is charged after trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a 15 year old boy. Instead, he was caught in a sex sting organized by the Wisconsin Dept. of Criminal Investigation.
Iqbal Tafader faces three felony charges: attempted sexual assault of a child under 16, use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and soliciting an intimate representation from a minor.
According to the criminal complaint Tafader posed an ad on Craigslist on January 31, seeking a male companion for sex. A DCI special agent responded to the ad and pretended to be a 15 year old boy from Hudson.
The two exchanged a variety of text messages over the next two days. Tafader sent a picture of his genitalia, and asked for one in return. Tafader agreed to drive to Hudson on February 1 and meet the boy. St. Croix County Sheriff's deputies and DCI special agents arrested Tafader at the arranged meeting spot near the Target store in Hudson.
During a police interview, Tafader admitted that he was there to meet the minor for sex.
Tafader returns to court February 5 for a status conference. If convicted on all charges, he faces 83 years in prison.
