Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Eau Claire YMCA has hired a new CEO replacing the current leader who is retiring this spring.
The Board of Directors of the Eau Claire YMCA announced the selection of Theresa Hillis as the new CEO. Hillis will officially begin her role on March 1, 2018, replacing Ken Van Es, who is retiring after nearly 16 years at the end of March.
“We had a number of qualified candidates, but Theresa stood out with her wealth of experience, knowledge in operational budgets, staff development, and fundraising,” Eau Claire YMCA Board Chair Jenny Fesenmaier said. “This experience made her the number one candidate to continue to grow our Y, continue to spread the mission in the community, collaborate with our partners, Mayo Health Systems and UWEC in the new facility.”
Hillis has 29 years with the YMCA. She has been the CEO of the Kandiyohi County Area Family YMCA in Willmar, MN since 2006. During her tenure she also served as interim CEO for the Alexandria YMCA and Brainard YMCA.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to lead a YMCA that has such a long-term presence in the surrounding community,” Hillis said. “I am excited to continue to build upon the success the Y has experienced and to deliver on our Y mission.”
Hillis has a husband and two adult sons with two dogs. She is an avid hiker, a self-proclaimed bad golfer and a lifelong consumer of books. Hillis is also a veteran of the US Air Force and served as a medic in the Gulf War.
