St. Croix County (WQOW) -- Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel was in western Wisconsin on Friday, to announce multiple human trafficking arrests made in our area days before the Super Bowl.

"For those people who purchase sex, you need to know that law enforcement - local, state and federal - we're coming after you. We won't tolerate this anymore," Schimel said at press conference.

Five people were arrested in what Schimel called a "larger-scale" sting operation. Including John Randall Hansen and Iqbal Kabir Tafader who, police said, knowingly targeted teenagers they met online for sex.

"We know, human trafficking would not exist if there weren't people willing to pay for sex with these individuals who're being trafficked," Schimel said.

What's more, he said, authorities rescued two victims of human trafficking because of the sting. Six organizations, including three police department, were involved in the operation.

Still, Schimel said it will take everyone's help to end human trafficking once and for all.

"We need the community to be our eyes and ears, so that we can identify the victims and investigate perpetrators," he said. "If you see something that you suspect is wrong, if you see what you think is someone being trafficked, report it."

Schimel also said trafficking is a problem in every community, that's why he created the Human Trafficking Bureau last September. Since it was established, the bureau has conducted 23 investigations around Wisconsin, arrested 15 traffickers and six 'Johns' and recovered 20 adult, and four child, sex trafficking victims.
