One of many popular outdoor activities to enjoy during our chilly Wisconsin winter has locals strapping on a second pair of shoes.
The Chippewa Valley Sierra Club, an environmental organization, hosted a snowshoe hike at Lake Menomin Park in Menomonie, Sunday. About a dozen locals came out to enjoy the scenic trails, the shining sun and to get their blood pumping.
Organizers told News 18 it's much more of a workout then some might expect.
"I always have my Fitbit," said Lisa Ludwig of the Chippewa Valley Sierra Club. "So, [my friend] is always interested in finding out, well, how far did we walk? How many calories did we burn? And you really do get a good workout. You are using different muscles than if you were running or skiing. So, I think it's an awesome thing to do in the winter."
Organizers said one reason for their outdoor events is to share their appreciation of the Northern Wisconsin winters with others.
