Augusta (WQOW) - Valentine's Day will be extra-special this year for one Augusta couple, who've been together 70 years.George and Loraine Stanek met when they were teenagers, while George was home from boot camp in the Marines. For the next two years, while he was away in the Pacific in WWII, they were pen pals.
When George came back from the war in 1945, their romance bloomed, and they were married in 1947.
Seven decades is a long time to spend with the person you love. We asked them what's their secret to a happy marriage.
"We could get along real good over the years, no problem," they said. "I mean, actually, let's face it: we just never got into too many fights."The Staneks now live at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation and Silver Leaf Assisted Living in Augusta.
