GOP Leader offers new ideas to curb gun violence in schools

MADISON (WKOW) -- New ideas to curb gun violence in schools are being brought up by Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. This week the Assembly already passed a bill to arm more security guards with guns in schools. Fitzgerald says he’s not confidant that’s the best solution.

He'd like to see money invested into security practices like electronic monitoring and installing corridors in entryways to prevent a shooter from getting in a side door. To pay for it he says funds from the general revenue could be used.

“Make sure those individuals who are manning those doors that they can identify a threat  so this doesn't happen in Wisconsin schools,” said Fitzgerald.

Support from his members on legislation to put more more guns in schools is unclear. President Trump this week gun free schools are targets. Trump is also interested in proposing Teacher who carry guns should get a bonus.
