Peawaukee (WISN) -- House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner on Saturday night in Pewaukee.
He began his speech talking very briefly about the gunman in Florida high school shooting "slipping through the cracks," but did not mention words gun control.
Ryan did tout the Republicans efforts on tax reform.
"A lot of people didn't think we could do it," he said. "The economy is growing. We are getting out of the doldrums that we were in."
Ryan has not yet announced if he will run for re-election this year, but touched on the importance of the mid-term elections.
"We know how to fight in tough elections," he said.
The two other Wisconsin Republicans who have announced they are running for Ryan's First District Congressional seat are Nick Polce and Paul Nehlen.
The filing deadline is in June. The primary is Aug. 14, and the general election is Nov. 6.
