Oshkosh (WBAY) -- A new organization in Oshkosh held a rally Saturday morning to start a campaign to make the city more welcoming to immigrants.
United Action Oshkosh put on the event at the Winnebago County Courthouse to announce they want to help make Oshkosh a sanctuary city.
After surveying members of the community, the group says making the city a sanctuary city will make Oshkosh a safer and more welcoming community for undocumented immigrants.
Multiple speakers highlighted the concerns the immigrant community faces.
"We feel like if we announce our intentions to make the city a sanctuary city, make it safer for immigrants and undocumented people to be here, more people would want to be here; and as I said in my speech a more diverse Oshkosh is a stronger Oshkosh," said Ryan Hamann, a founding member of the group.
The group's next event is an organization meeting on March 3 at the Oshkosh Public Library.
