MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WISN) -

Boston Store will begin its Going Out of Business Sale on Friday, and big changes for shoppers are already in effect.

The parent company, Bon-Ton Stores Inc., announced Thursday that the final sales at 212 stores and e-commerce websites are expected to run for approximately 10-12 weeks.

As part of the shut-down, Christine Hojnacki, a Boston Store spokesperson, said a number of new rules are now in place that will have an impact on shoppers:

  • Effective immediately, customers will no be able to use their Boston Store credit card. Only cash and nationally accepted credit cards will be accepted. If a purchase was made on a Bon-Ton credit card prior to April 19, 2018, a credit can be processed on the card within 10 days.
  • Effective immediately, store loyalty programs have been discontinued.
  • As of Friday, April 20, coupons will no longer be valid once store closing sales begin.
  • Boston Stores will continue to accept returns in-store and online under normal policies for the 10 days following the start of the store closing sales. Following the 10-day period, all online and in-store sales will be final, and merchandise sold prior and during the store closing period will be considered a final sale.
  • If a purchase was made on a Bon-Ton credit card prior to April 19, 2018, a credit can be processed on the card within 10 days.

All of this comes one day after a U.S. bankruptcy court approved an agreement allowing for the liquidation of the company. More than 2,200 Bon-Ton employees in Wisconsin will lose their jobs.

The company has posted a restructuring website and a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
