Altoona (WQOW) - The Altoona School District has chosen its new leader for the next year.
Monday evening, the school board approved the hiring of former Elk Mound superintendent Ron Walsh as the interim superintendent while it searches for a permanent replacement. Walsh was named Wisconsin Superintendent of the Year in 2013, and had worked in Elk Mound, Boyceville, Plum City and Spooner.
Walsh is also currently a mentor for the American Association of District Administrators.
School board president Robin Elvig told News 18 that Walsh is the perfect stabilizing figure as the district continues a search for the permanent superintendent. That search is set to begin in November.
Earlier this year, superintendent Connie Biedron's employment ended after a scandal involving the firing of a football coach.
