Clark County (WQOW) - Child abuse charges were filed this week against a Clark County man, after an infant was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The baby's mother brought her to the hospital in January. The one-month-old had bruises on her head and chest, and one of her eyes was not working properly.
The mother's boyfriend, Alden Martin Jr., of Neillsville, told detectives he was holding the baby when its head suddenly pitched forward, striking his collarbone.
He later said he remembered he had laid the baby on a bed and went to get something, but had to go the bathroom, and when he came out found her on the floor. Doctors said that wouldn't have caused the injuries. They said there would need to be multiple, significant blunt traumas to cause so much internal bleeding.
Another child in the home told a worker from social services that the baby had been thrown, and hit a window.
Martin is charged with felony child abuse. He will be in court in June.
