The man convicted last year in the bizarre homicide of his wife has hired a very high profile attorney to help with his appeal.
On Tuesday, online court records show that Todd Kendhammer retained Jerome Buting as an attorney on the case.
Buting gained notoriety as one of the defense attorneys for Steven Avery, one of two men convicted of killing Theresa Halbach, in 2005 in Manitowoc County. The case became the subject of a Netflix documentary "Making A Murderer'. Both Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, are appealing the conviction.
Todd Kendhammer was convicted in 2017 of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide in the death of his wife Barbara on September 16, 2016.
Jurors failed to believe his story that as the couple traveled down a road near West Salem, a pipe fell from a passing truck and smashed through the windshield and struck her in the head. She died the following day in a La Crosse hospital.
In March, Kendhammer was sentenced to at least 30 years in prison.
Following the sentencing hearing, paperwork was filed appealing the case according to online records.
