Original Black Panthers protest after officer punches suspect in face

Wauwatosa, WI (WISN) -- The Original Black Panthers of Milwaukee are calling for justice after a Wauwatosa police officer was seen on video punching a suspect in the face in the parking lot of Mayfair Mall.

The group went to the Wauwatosa Police Department on Saturday afternoon and then to Mayfair Mall, where they marched through the mall and met with security, who told them they had no comment on the situation, but it's being looked at.

The Original Black Panthers of Milwaukee want the police officer fired and charged. They’re also calling for a mall security guard to be fired and a boycott of the mall.

Police were called to the mall around 4:30 p.m. Friday by mall security for disorderly subjects who refused to leave.

In a statement police said, "This video shows only a small segment of the interaction between the suspect and the officer."

"It doesn't matter if that individual was causing a disturbance in Mayfair Mall," said King Rick, of the Original Black Panthers of Milwaukee. "He did not deserve to be brutally assaulted and punched in his face."

Police said a 17-year-old was arrested and cited for disorderly conduct, battery and resisting an officer. He has been released from custody.

Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber issued this statement: "I can assure you that we take all situations seriously when they involve a use of force by our officers. We thoroughly review all incidents in which force is used by an officer and will do so in this incident, as well."
