High heat did not slow business at area campground

Augusta (WQOW) -- Many people are returning home from their holiday weekend, but did the heat dampen the fun?

At Coon Forks Campground in Augusta, staff said they had a busy Memorial Day weekend, with all of their campsites booked for the holiday. Campers came prepared for the hot temperatures, but the same could not be said for a transformer at Coon Forks, which over-heated and needed to be replaced. However, staff told News 18, campers found ways to beat the heat.

"I did have some of those people with their bigger rigs had a generator or a gas back-up, so if they needed to stay cool, if you've got young kids or older people they can get back in and stay cool," said park ranger Tess Gugel. "Just plan ahead, be prepared for different situations, keep and eye on the weather and just plan."

Ranger Gugel also said many campers frequented the Coon Forks beach during their stay to keep themselves cool.
