Durand teacher wins Tools for Schools grant

Posted:

Durand (WQOW) - This month's Tools for Schools is going to actual tools.

Every month, WQOW along with Asher Lasting Exteriors and United Bank awards an area school with a $500 grant to help in the classroom.

Kyle Danzinger, who teaches everything from exploratory classes, to woodworking, welding and even computer-aided design at Durand Middle-High School, has been bringing in his own tools from home to help students complete projects.

Not only that, some of the current equipment is pretty out of date.

"A lot of our tools are getting to that age where we're looking at tools from the 60s, 70s, and 80s," Danzinger said. "It's tough to find replacement parts to keep these tools as safe as they need to be for some of these kids."

Danzinger hopes to use the $500 to either buy some new tools, like finishing nail guns and saws, or put the funds to some new expensive equipment like a band saw.
