Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Eau Claire Express drops its 2018 home opener, 2-1, to La Crosse, as the Loggers sweep the home-and-home series.
Eau Claire, which was shutout on one hit Thursday night at Copeland Park, got out to a 1-0 lead in the 4th when Garrett Gouldsmith beat out an infield hit, and advanced to second on an errant throw, allowing Devon Garcia to score all the way from first. The Loggers took the lead in the 6th when relievers Isaiah Davis and Phillip SIkes each walked in a run.
Express hitters did manage four hits, but struck out eighteen times. Chippewa Falls native and Xavier University pitcher Trevor Olson took the loss, he was charged with two earned runs over five and two-thirds innings, scattering three hits, while striking out five and walking five.
Eau Claire will start a series with Duluth, Saturday, at Carson Park. Game time is set for 6:35 P.M.
