(WQOW) -- This weekend, anyone looking to drop a line in a Wisconsin river or lake can do it for free. That includes the state's youngest citizens.
Saturday in La Crosse, the AFL-CIO held a fishing event for kids, even providing supplies for the young anglers. Organizers said the goal is to instill a love of the outdoors at an early age.
"A lot of the youngsters now-days they stay indoors, they play video games and things like that. This really gives them a chance to really get outside, really experience nature," said Tyler Tubbs, president of the western Wisconsin AFL-CIO.
"First I did not like fishing but I kind of get really happy when I catch the fish," added young angler Ryan Halvorson.
On Sunday, the event will be moving to Eau Claire. It will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Braun's Bay in Carson Park. More information can be found here.
