(Eau Claire North Press Release) -- North High School announced today that Jill Elliott has been hired as Head Girls’ Basketball Coach.

Jill (Berg) Elliott is a 1993 North High School graduate where she played for Chico LaBarbera. During that time, Elliott garnered first team All-City, All-Conference, All-Northwest, and All-State recognitions. She also played AAU and participated in numerous AAU National Championships. Elliott was a member of the 1993 Division 1 WBCA All-Star team and was the first female athlete from North High School to receive a Division I basketball scholarship.

From 1993-1997, Elliott’s collegiate career was at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, under the direction of Wendy Larry. Old Dominion won the CAA Conference Championship 4 years in a row and had an overall conference record of 59-1. ODU went on to qualify for the NCAA Division I National Tournament each of Elliott’s 4 years with ODU. During the 1996-1997 season, the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs were ranked #1 in the nation, with a record of 34-2 and finished the season as NCAA Division I National Championship runner-up to the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

Upon returning to Eau Claire, Elliott reconnected with North High School and began her coaching career with the EC Volunteers from 1997-2000. From 1998-2003, she also coached at North in various roles (sophomore team, varsity assistant, post coach). During the 2003-2004 season, Elliott was an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Stout under Mark Thomas. UW-Stout finished the season with a 18-9 overall record and 10-6 conference record. For the past 4 years, Elliott has also coached a wide range of ages, (10-18) both boys and girls, through the Wisconsin City Hoops AAU program and the Husky Hoops youth program. Elliott also served as the Assistant Varsity and Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Cadott High School for the past three seasons.

Elliott commented, “Through my years of experience and training I am determined to be a coach who inspires athletes with my passion for the game. I look forward to continuing the legacy of the North Girls Basketball program. I am very thankful to Coach Michelle Peplinski for her continued support, and for helping this transition period be a smooth one.”

Elliott continued, “I would like to thank the North administrative team and interview committee members for their confidence in me and professionalism during the interview process. As I have maintained a close tie to North High School over the years, the transition to head coach feels a bit surreal. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support that I have received.”

Elliott concluded, “There are so many individuals that have helped create opportunities for me through basketball when I was young. I hope to be able to pay it forward and fill that role for others. I can not verbalize how much it means to me to be able to come back to North and coach within the very walls that I have always called home.”

Joe Eisenhuth, NHS Assistant Principal & Athletic Director, commented, “We are very pleased to have Jill Elliott join our coaching staff. The student athletes in our girls’ basketball program will quickly recognize how much Coach Elliott cares about them. She will have high expectations and be compassionate at the same time. We look forward to seeing Coach Elliott utilize her experiences in working with our student athletes and leading our Girls’ Basketball Program."

In addition to her basketball coaching responsibilities, Ms. Elliott will continue in her role as Family and Community Partnership Coordinator for the Eau Claire Area School District’s Early Learning Program. Elliott has been in this role since 2005
